Pav Bread Recipe | Eggless Baking

Monsoons in India, hot Vada Pav with Garlic Chutney, Pav Bhaji with Green Chutney and chopped onions, and a piping hot cup of sweet sweet tea!! Ah well I can dream 😏!! And I can bake and cook and enjoy all that yummy food right here!! Last week I made Pav Bhaji - fresh Bhaji for the Pav and hot Pav Bread straight from the oven.

It was such a hit around here, I have been getting requests to make the Pav Bread again since. So this morning I made fresh Pav Bread. We enjoyed it as a sandwich with butter, Gobhi Bhaji, and cheese!! Totally decadent.... This is a no fail Pav Bread recipe that yields spongy and crusty Pav Bread just like you get in the bakeries in India. Don't skip the step of applying butter to the Pav crust hot off the oven, this make the the crust tender and you will enjoy the crumb of the bread more.

Ingredients:
31/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp yeast
2 cups warmed water
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp oil

Method:
  1. Mix the flour and the salt in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add the sugar and yeast to the warm water and allow to proof.
  3. Mix the wet and dry ingredients and make a sticky dough.
  4. Oil the palms of your hands, and place the dough in a well greased bowl to proof, about 45 minutes.
  5. With greased palms, make 12 equal sized balls and place on a cookie sheet.
  6. Allow to rise and double, about 15 to 35 minutes depending on the local temperature.
  7. Bake in preheated oven at 400 F for 15-20 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven. slather the tops of the buns with butter.
  9. Enjoy warm with pav bhaji or use as a sandwich bun for Alu Bonda or your favorite cutlet.
